The perfect time to jump on Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2 is now free to play, meaning there is no more excuses not to play this game

One of the biggest video game related news items over the past week came from Valve games. Unfortunately, it wasn’t Half Life 3 (damn you Valve), but for those that don’t own one of the best multiplayer shooters of the past five years, it was the next best news. Team Fortress 2 recently became “Free to play”.

First of all some background. If you have never played Team Fortress 2, you have no idea what you are missing. It is one of the last few “classic” shooters out there. Everything about the game is “easy to learn, hard to master”. There are a couple of different game types, a couple of different (official) maps and only nine character classes. In this day and age of Battlefield and Call of Duty and insane customization, it seems underwhelming.

IGN Top 100 Modern Games

IGN is at it again with a great list for us to enjoy. They are doing Top 100 Modern Games. Modern meaning any of the new generation systems. If you are itching to buy a new critically acclaimed game for your system, check out this list. As of right now they are #41 Which is Sid Meier’s Civilization IV. This is a great list because there are videos accompanied with every game. Weather you agree with their pickings or not- all the games are highly rated so you can be sure they will be a good buy.

Why Entourage Sucked Last Season

Entourage is synonymous with HBO and summer premium television programming and with the 8th and final season hot on our heels (release date: July 24th, 2011) it is hard to know what to expect from this show that once dazzled and hit the funny bone every time.  Honestly, the perennial summer television highlight from HBO, steadily over the last two seasons has become nothing more than mediocre, and with my expectations as high as they were last season in particular, it was really nothing less than terrible.

What makes great television?  In great shows the acting and writing stay consistent from the first episode to the final episode, working off of each other to build significant character arcs and, in the case of most, engrossing plotlines.  It is hard to do this for most, which is why most TV is bad.  Writers have to keep in mind how their characters acted in season 1 when writing season 10, and there may have been 10 years of down-time in between there.  This makes it hard to a) keep in mind the characters former flaws/traits and how they have changed over the course of the show and b) keep things fresh.  It’s a constant battle for TV writers who I believe have the biggest pressure-cooker job in show business.

NEW! Mission Impossible Movie: Ghost Protocol

Recently, one of our writers, Nick Rajan, wrote an article about the greatest ‘Movie Runners’ of which Tom Cruise may be the best on the list. Shortly after, a trailer was released for the new Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

J.J. Abrams is jumping on board as a producer.

A lot of the old cast is back, but will be joined by Jeremy Renner.

Video Games Win in the Supreme Court

Today, the Supreme Court defeated the state of California’s ban on the sale of violent video games to minors citing that video games are no different from books, movies, comics and other forms of art, and are therefore protected under the First Amendment. This comes as great news to all fans and developers of video games ever, as once and for all they can say that their creations are works of art. The vote passed with a motion of 7 to 2.

Great Inspirational Movies

Here is a brief list of a few of the greastest inspirational movies.  These movies show several characters who are dedicated towards a goal.  Their goals are different, their values are different. their backgrounds are different, some are striving for glory, some are do everything they can to accomplish a goal, some are working for a personal goal, and some are fighting for others.. The thing that they all have in common is  that they were all dedicated to something. Every one of these characters shows what it means to have true willpower and to never give up when faced with obstacles.

Ken Levine talks about BioShock’s tear system

Check out this video with Irrational Games’ creative director, Ken Levine.

This is the third game in the series and ever since its announcement has been on many gamers’ radars.

Leaving its two predececcors in the ocean, BioShock Infinite takes to the skies in the land of Colombia. New gameplay mechanics and more of an attachment to characters, are just a few of the changes being made to the franchise.

The game will be release February of 2012.

Game of Thrones Season in Review

If you haven’t caught on to this summer’s blockbuster TV show Game of Thrones, you need to jump on the bandwagon. Possibly the best show on television currently, Thrones’ first season has been fantastic. Based on the bestselling novel series by George R. R. Martin, Game of Thrones is set in a dark, medieval fantasy world where several royal families are all vying for the Iron Throne, the story’s seat of power. Think of it as one reporter puts it, “The Sopranos meets The Lord of the Rings.” If you haven’t watched the show, you may not want to read below as there are MAJOR plot spoilers. Once again, beware, spoilers below.
