Great Movie Scene Chronicles Part II – Being John Malkovich (1999)

“Malkovich? Malkovich.  Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich.  MALKOVICH!”

Being John Malkovich starts out as a relatively dark movie with quirky humor about a down-on-his-luck puppeteer Craig (John Cusack) who falls for a ravishing woman colleague named Maxine (Catherine Keener) at his new office job.  After Craig’s many passes at her, all failing miserably, the two form an odd relationship when he finds a portal that lets you see the world through the eyes of actor John Malkovich (played by John Malkovich, DUDE) for 15 minutes before being tossed on the side of the New Jersey Turnpike once the mind-trip ends.  The two begin running a business exploiting the embodiment of Malkovich and the film’s plot takes off when Craig’s wife Lotte (Cameron Diaz) experiences the portal for herself, culminating in life-altering changes to her psyche and changing the lives of Craig, Maxine, herself, and Malkovich forever.

Great Movie Scene Chronicles Part I – Network (1976)

“Mad as Hell!” Scene

A call for help.  A rallying cry.  Social commentary on a generation.  This scene is all those things and it has stood the test of time, making it an iconic triumph of monologue.  The problems Howard Beale (Peter Finch) addresses in his demented rant are still prevalent today helping the movie resonate with the generation that viewed it first in 1976 all the way through to this generation, our generation.  You’ll hear oil crisis, economic collapse, and corporate takeover mentioned.  Sound familiar?  It’s astonishing that a film that came out in 1976 about Network news, best served as a satire soda with a small dark comedy lemon slice on top, can still have so much to say about a generation 35 years later.   Finch is absolutely terrific and it would be naïve to think that this scene wasn’t the game-winning shot in his Best Actor Oscar chase versus Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver.

NEW DEAD ISLAND Gameplay

After the 1st trailer for Dead Island, there was a lot of buzz about the game. Recently a new video was released showcasing some of the game play.

Check it out here: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/to-kill-dead-island/714102

It looks like he game is a mix of Far Cry 2 (map), Dead Rising (choices to save people), and Left for Dead (zombies/ interface).

The game looks like a new spin on the zombie genre and hopefully it lives up to the hype of the first trailer.

First Pic of Tom Hardy as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises

The film’s website just went live a few days ago, and with it our first taste of Tom Hardy as Bane. Apparently every time someone on twitter posted with the hashtag #thefirerises, a new image was added to the college on the website to finally reveal the image of Bane.

If you want to check out the website you can find it here.

We should be hearing more and more from the set as the summer progresses and more material surfaces!

LA Noire premieres “The Red Lipstick Murder” Case at Tribeca

L.A. Noire, the highly anticipated Rockstar/Team Bondi collaboration, hit shelves on Tuesday.  In addition to being an awesome game with groundbreaking motion capture technology there was a lot of buzz before the game was released surrounding their premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

The game was the first ever shown at the festival in late April and it seemed to make a big splash in the film community, with creative directors of the festival elaborating on the ever-growing similarities between the film and video game mediums.  While some may disagree with the company’s selection of which case to show off, me being one of them, the part in the game (The Red Lipstick Murder) proves a crucial turning point in the character development of Noire’s protagonist Cole Phelps.

The Games of E3 2011

Game Informer has just released their list of the games that will be presented at E3 2011, and boy am I pumped. As a HUGE Elder Scrolls fan I will be most looking forward to what Bethesda has in store for us, but there are many other titles out there that interest me as well.

We’ll get to see Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 square off against Battlefield 3 for the first time, and that’s sure to be a heated contest as both companies will be looking to tout the best of their product.

We should also be getting a good taste of Star Wars: The Old Republic, but as we are still fairly far from the release date, don’t count on BioWare showing us much.

Check the link below to find out if your game made the cut this year.

Super Hero Movies, are they really that Super?

Over the last decade or so there have been a lot of super hero movies that have been released. From X-Men to Thor we have seen a wide variety of movies and an even wider variety of superheros.

It does not seem like this trend will be stopping any time soon, with Spiderman getting rebooted and the Avengers being talked about, not to mention the cascade of sequels that are bound to come out, Thor 2, Iron Man 3, The Dark Knight Rises, however do all these movies deserve a sequel?

Or are there other superheros that are more deserving of a movie?

Personally I was disappointed by both Hulks, Superman Returns, and even Thor.

As for movies being released, I think the Green Lantern will deliver, and as for Captain America I have a feeling it may be over hyped.

If you have any opinions let’s hear em: What Superhero movies have you liked? Which are you excited about? And which have you been disappointed with?
